Use this before the conversation. It gives you the key moves, the scripts, and what to watch for, without having to reread the full guide.
You're opening a door. One door. Tonight you're not fixing the whole problem. You're making honest contact about something real.
That's it.
Pick the script that fits where you are.
If this is the first time you're naming it:
"Hey, I've been thinking lately that I miss being close to you. Not in a loaded way. I just miss it."
[Pause. Don't fill the silence.]
"I don't need to make a big thing out of it tonight. I just wanted to say it."
If the distance has been going on a while:
"I want to be honest about something. I feel like we've been less physically connected lately, and I've been sitting with it for a while instead of just saying it."
[Pause.]
"I'm not saying it to make you feel bad. I'm saying it because I want us to be closer."
If you want to understand her experience first:
"Can I ask you something? I want to understand, not start a fight."
[Wait for her signal.]
"I feel like we've been less physically close lately. Is there something going on for you that I should know about?"
"Last time I brought this up, I don't think I said it well. I came across as frustrated and that wasn't fair."
[Pause.]
"What I actually wanted to say, and didn't, is that I miss feeling close to you. Not as a complaint. As something I care about."
She shuts down or leaves: Don't follow. Later, say: "I can see that came up at a bad time. I'm not looking for a big conversation. I just wanted you to know I meant what I said."
She calls it manipulative: Don't defend the approach. Say: "You're right to be skeptical. I know I haven't always shown up well. I'm trying to do it differently."
She says everything is fine: Say: "Okay. I wanted to say how I was feeling and I did." Then leave it there.
When you're ready for a next step:
"This isn't a big thing, I just want to ask if we could sit closer tonight. Watch something together, nothing else. I'd just like to be near you."
If she says yes, accept it simply. If she says no, say "okay" and mean it.
Physical closeness follows emotional safety. Every calm, honest conversation you have builds the conditions that make touch feel safe and wanted for her. These conversations are the path there, not a shortcut around it.
